EECP therapy available in Government Hospital in India





In India patients will be able to avail treatment using an enhanced external counter pulsation (EECP) equipment at the Mahatma Gandhi Memorial (MGM) government hospital in Trichy from Saturday onwards.

EECP is a non invasive treatment for patients with refractory cardiac failure, refractory angina, angina after bypass surgery, patients unwilling or unfit for surgery and patient with triple vessel disease with refractory failure.
The cuff inflates and deflates between the resting periods of the heartbeat and increases the blood flow to the heart. The patients can feel the blood flow all through the body. Stating that the treatment will be for elective cases instead of emergency cases, Dr Anitha said that the treatment can be taken for prevention of heart diseases. “The patient has to undergo the treatment for one hour daily for 35 days or 6 days in a week for six weeks

The new equipment has been sanctioned to the hospital under a special scheme to join the club of 11 other government hospitals which have already been equipped with EECP facility in the state.

“Several people won’t get rid of heart diseases even after bypass surgery. EECP will give them a new lease of life through non-invasive treatment. The equipment is ready for inauguration at our hospital,” MGM government hospital Dr G Anitha.
